Thomas A. Rago Recognized by Worldwide Who's Who as a 2012 Professional of the Year for Excellence in Oceanography

    MONTEREY, CA, May 22, 2012 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Thomas A. Rago, Oceanographer for The United States Naval Postgraduate School, has been named a Worldwide Who's Who Professional of the Year in Oceanography. While inclusion in the Worldwide Who's Who Registry is an honor, only a small selection of members in each discipline are chosen for this distinction. These special honorees are distinguished based on their professional accomplishments, academic achievements, leadership abilities, years of service, and the credentials they have provided in association with their Worldwide Who's Who membership.

"I have been around the water my entire life," says Mr. Rago, who completed a Bachelor of Arts in Physics at Amherst College before realizing that he wanted physics to represent only one aspect of his career. When the dean of the Graduate School of Oceanography at the University of Rhode Island suggested that Mr. Rago take some courses in that discipline, he accepted and went on to earn a Master of Science in Oceanography, which has since become his area of specialty. His love of marine life and the various processes that sustain it jived well with the new field to which he was introduced, for which he now collects and analyzes oceanographic data with the purpose of improving Navy research and underwater warfare preparedness. By reviewing physical conditions and formations in the ocean, especially movement patterns, compositional properties, and land/sea boundaries, he contributes to a field of study that impacts not only the Earth, but the national security of the United States as well.

Having published a number of technical and scientific articles, Mr. Rago keeps current in his field as a member of the American Geophysical Union and The Oceanography Society. He holds a Master of Science in oceanography from the University of Rhode Island and a Bachelor of Arts in physics from Amherst College.
