Thomas G. Fetch Jr. Celebrated for Excellence in the Field of Agriculture

Dr. Fetch earned a Scientists Without Borders grant from the Brazil Agriculture Agency

An expert in agricultural science, Dr. Fetch has served as a research scientist and stem rust pathologist with Agriculture & Agri-Food Canada since 2000.

    BRANDON, MB, January 09, 2018 -- Thomas Fetch Jr. has been included in Marquis Who's Who. An expert in agricultural science, Dr. Fetch has served as a research scientist and stem rust pathologist with Agriculture & Agri-Food Canada since 2000. A world-renowned expert on virulence in cereal rust fungi and associated host plant resistance genes, he has published more than 100 articles in peer-reviewed journals, as well as discovered and characterized several new resistance genes used to combat the highly virulent strain of wheat stem rust known as Ug99. During his research on Ug99, he worked with Dr. Norman Borlaug, the father of the green revolution.

A graduate of North Dakota State University, Dr. Fetch holds a Bachelor of Science in zoology, a Master of Science in agronomy, and a PhD in plant pathology. Throughout his career, he has been awarded many times for his professional accomplishments, earning a Scientists Without Borders grant from the Brazil Agriculture Agency in 2013. Looking ahead, he intends to make better cereal cultivars (wheat, barley, and oat) that benefit farmers and producers and also feed the hungry. Within five years, he plans to retire and possibly consult in the field, and work with Habitat for Humanity.
