SAINT JOSEPH, MO, January 11, 2018 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Thomas P. Smith with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Mr. Smith celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

A musician for much of his life, Mr. Smith began playing the piano in the third grade. Later attending Rockhurst College where he received his undergraduate degree in 1969, followed by a Master of Music in Organ Performance at the University of Missouri-Kansas City in 1975, he spent 50 years playing, directing, and teaching music at a number of venues. Becoming a music director emeritus in 2016, Mr. Smith is grateful for the many successful and enjoyable years he spent in the field.

In 1966, prior to earning his first degree, Mr. Smith was an organist and choir director at St. Augustine's Catholic Church in Kansas City, MO, for three years. Following completion of his Bachelor's degree, he began working as the director of music at the Cathedral of St. Joseph in St. Joseph, MO. Moving into education, he accepted the opportunity to teach at Macon County R-IV Schools in New Cambria and later at St. Joseph Public Schools. By the late 1970s, however, Mr. Smith returned to his roots as the director of music at Cathedral of St. Joseph, where he remained for many more years.

A member of the American Guild of Organists, where he also earned the Associate certificate, Mr. Smith continues to serve as the dean of the St. Joseph Missouri chapter and plays the organ once per weekend for services. Also known in his community for having served as a volunteer Boy Scouts of America leader for more than 35 years, he was originally inspired to participate with the organization when his church sponsored a Boy Scouts group in the late 1970s.

Serving active duty in the U.S. Army from 1970 to 1973, and in the reserves from 1974 to 2002, Mr. Smith enjoys his down time in the outdoors, especially hiking. He also loves to read and volunteers at his church by directing the hand bell choir. Notably, he has been cited in the 61st edition of Who's Who in America for his dedication.

In recognition of outstanding contributions to his profession and the Marquis Who's Who community, Thomas P. Smith has been featured on the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement website. Please visit www.ltachievers.com for more information about this honor.
