NEW YORK, NY, May 24, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- GIRLS WHO ROCK, an electrifying, inspiring benefit concert, will take place on Thursday, June 10, 2010 at Santos Party House in New York City. Female recording artists Kat DeLuna, Lenka, MoZella, Shontelle, Cara Salimando and Kelli Pyle, along with DJ Kalkutta, will make music to make a difference for She's the First, raising funds to support girls' education in Africa. She's the First is a global education campaign that sends girls to school around the world, so they can break barriers and become "the first" to achieve amazing goals. Brooklyn-based actor Chris Bashinelli will emcee the evening. Bashinelli is executive director and host of "Bridge the Gap," an internationally recognized documentary web series about sustainable development and cultural immersion.

Ticket sales, $20 for general admission and $50 for VIP, will fund the education of deserving teenage girls in Tanzania via AfricAid, a partner of the She's the First campaign. AfricAid was chosen as the beneficiary because the organization recently piloted The Kisa Project, an initiative that enrolls girls in leadership training and digital storytelling workshops, where they learn to share their lives with sponsors through rich, vivid videos. For this reason, GIRLS WHO ROCK is proud to be featured as part of Internet Week New York and will be broadcast on livestream.com/girlswhorockny for a global audience.

Promotional partners include Girls in Tech, GiveForward.org, New York Women Social Entrepreneurs (NYWSE), Press Lift by Drop.io, Social Diva, The Hip Event, and You Sing, I Write.

About She's the First
She's the First promotes the importance of educating girls, especially in the developing world. We sponsor girls around the globe by encouraging young women to unlock the power of their social networks and creatively fundraise, giving underprivileged girls the means to break barriers and become the "first" to achieve their special goals. About AfricAid
AfricAid is a nonprofit organization that supports girls' education in Africa in order to provide young women with the opportunity to transform their own lives and the futures of their communities. The seed was planted when Ashley Shuyler visited Tanzania in 1996, which blossomed into AfricAid in 2001. With passion and a deep personal connection to the struggle of girls in Tanzania, Ashley has turned her idea into the meaningful, effective organization that AfricAid is proud to be. About The Kisa Project
The Kisa Project is a new AfricAid initiative that provides school scholarships and leadership training to some of Africa's brightest young women. Young women in The Kisa Project complete their secondary school education, while also participating in a formal, two-year leadership training program. Through a specially designed curriculum, digital storytelling, and interactive website, Kisa Scholars develop, write, and share their life stories with their sponsors in a rich and vivid video format. Upon graduation, they will then return to their home communities to implement vital community projects and provide life-skills mentoring to groups of other young women, thus helping to create the next generation of leaders across Africa. Attendees of GIRLS WHO ROCK will be able to follow the progress of the Kisa Scholars we helped sponsor together on She's the First blog throughout the year. Learn more at http://www.kisaproject.org.
