/EIN Presswire/ -- Tony Winters of Pentastudio Architecture Selected to Design Blue Man Group's new School for Children
New York, NY - September 29, 2008 -- The Blue Man Group has hired New York architect Tony Winters of Pentastudio Architecture to design their newest venture, the Blue Man Creativity Center, at 432 Lafayette Street in New York.
The new school, for children aged 2 through 6, has as its mission “to cultivate creative, joyful and compassionate enquirers who use courageous and innovative thinking to build a harmonious and sustainable world.”
Matt Goldman, co-founder of the Blue Man Group and the Blue Man Creativity Center, says “We want to create a healthy, warm, safe, nurturing environment where community is paramount, and where children's interactions between classes is just as important as what happens during classes. We want to create the kind of educational program we wish we'd had for ourselves and dreamed we'd have for our children; a place where people feel like there is genuinely no better place to learn.”
Pentastudio Architecture, a fast-growing architectural firm with offices in New York and Rome, secured the design commission in early 2008. The firm specializes in design of creative environments such as art studios, galleries, trading floors and performing-arts spaces. Pentastudio principal Tony Winters says the firm's success has come from “creating healthy, exciting spaces people love to work in and visit.”
The Grammy-nominated Blue Man Group is best known for its theatrical show “Tubes”, which opened Off-Broadway at the Astor Place Theatre in 1991 and continues to play there today. Blue Man Group now has productions running in Boston, Chicago, Las Vegas and Orlando as well as Berlin, Oberhausen and Tokyo.
The school will be located in historic Colonnade Row, one of New York's premier landmark buildings, once the home of John Jacob Astor. The new school is going through the planning approvals process now, and is scheduled to open in fall, 2009. The NYC Landmarks Preservation Commission approved the project at its public hearing on June 17, 2008, and drawings were filed by the architect with New York's Department of Buildings shortly thereafter.
