LOS ANGELES, CA, February 26, 2009
/24-7PressRelease/ -- Jessica Brody, top selling author of the much talked about The Fidelity Files (St. Martin's Press - 2008) novel has created Free Book Friday.com - a website to stimulate minds while many Americans face unemployment.
"You can call it my own version of the President's Stimulus Plan," says 29 year old Brody. "Thousands are losing their jobs every week. Not many people have the luxury of dining out, going to the cinema...or even buying a book for themselves or their children. So I decided that giving away free books would not only make people feel good - because who doesn't like *free* -- but also promote literacy."
The response to FreeBookFriday.com has been overwhelming. In just six short weeks the site has seen weekly visitor growth rates in the 300 percent range, and has been talked about on numerous blogs across the web.
The initial draw to the site is clearly the giveaways, "But it's the content that keeps visitors coming back," says Charlie Fink, an avid Free Book Friday supporter.
Not only can readers enter to win a free autographed book by some of the nation's bestselling authors, but they can also learn more about the book directly from the author through weekly podcast interviews, hosted by Brody.
"I love connecting with fellow authors every week. It gives our readers a unique insight into the creative process behind some of their favorite titles," says Brody.
"It's still the beginning of 2009, and there is already an author wait list," says Brody.
Brody has also created Free Book Friday Teens that is geared towards Young Adults. However, she says there are many who enjoy receiving books from both sites.
Jessica Brody resides in Los Angeles, California. She graduated from Smith College, where she double majored in Economics and French and minored in Japanese. Jessica later went on to work for MGM Studios as a Manager of Acquisitions and Business Development. In May 2005, she left her high powered job for something more fulfilling-- writing.
Her first novel, The Fidelity Files hit bookshelves in 2008, and is now top ranked across the nation. She recently completed the follow-up, slated for publication this fall and a Young Adult novel, scheduled for release next spring. Jessica works as a freelance writer and producer. She currently writes for Yahoo's hilarious online TV recap show, Prime Time in No time." Jessica also produces feature length films for Cyur Films.
