DURHAM, NC, January 04, 2010
/24-7PressRelease/ -- The American Tobacco Campus did a lot better than mistletoe over the holidays. Tim Lyons proposed to Rachel Kovick using the campus as a fittingly romantic backdrop. The idea to pop the question at ATC popped into Lyons' head during the Light Up Durham ceremony, at which the campus' iconic water tower became a twinkling holiday beacon.
But the proposal was just one way American Tobacco Campus felt the love in 2009. Here's our top ten for 2009 (in no particular order), and a look at what's coming in 2010:
Our 800,000 square feet of vintage factory space and new construction is filled with tenants, including 20,000 square feet of restaurants, a 50,000 square foot commercial arts college, and other businesses.
Our newest tenant is also one of the area's most successful law firms. The Law Offices of James Scott Farrin moved into a bright new space at Diamond View II. Welcome!
Bay 7 hosted more than 200 events, including fundraisers, Full Frame's It's All Bull film series and art exhibits like Timberlake at American Tobacco: A Carolina Collection.
The resplendent Durham Performing Arts Center opened next door with marquee concerts, Broadway shows and more. Our new Facebook page has featured ticket giveaways for concerts by the likes of Jackson Brown and Roger Daltrey. Become a fan!
McKinney, one of our very first tenants, re-upped its lease through 2021. And its cool, collaborative work space received national attention.
Our neighbors, The Durham Bulls, won the Triple-A Championship and welcomed more than half a million fans to the Durham Bulls Athletic Park.
Our latest restaurant, Cuban Revolution, brought zesty new flavors. Meanwhile, Tyler's, Mellow Mushroom and Saladelia continued to satisfy appetites.
Zenph, an entertainment technology company some compare to Pixar, announced plans to move its headquarters here. So Hollywood!
Our Music on the Lawn series drew more than 6,000 fans to jam with good-time acts like Yo Mama's Big Fat Booty Band. Plus, we debuted Carts in the Park for those sunny days when only a picnic lunch will do.
Durham racked up major national accolades. From being one of the safest metros for pedestrians to being a center of creativity and innovation, Durham is hard to beat.
Yep, a pretty good year. But we're even more revved up what's coming in 2010. In a word: more. More entertainment options. More great companies. More interplay between creative people and places. Keep an eye on us (www.americantobaccocampus.com). Better yet, come and be part of one of the nation's most successful and stimulating urban hubs of business and entertainment!
