PERSHORE, ENGLAND, January 09, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Our Dementia Awareness course aims to provide sufficient information to raise awareness of the condition as well as ensuring that delegates feel a significant benefit from attending the course. The course covers various different forms of Dementia, including Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, Picks Disease and Korsakoff Syndrome. Delegates learn how these conditions affect the brain and are also taught the various signs and symptoms of Dementia.

Anthony Griffin is a Health and Social Care trainer for First Response Training. He says that Dementia Awareness is one of his favourite courses to train because the delegates taking part always demonstrate a keen interest in the subject. Like all of our trainers, Anthony highly values any feedback from delegates. He is pleased to report that attendees at a recent Dementia course commented that the content 'was put across in a very understanding and comfortable way' and that the practical discussions provided 'excellent insight into the subject'.

After establishing what Dementia essentially is, the course details the changes that take place within an individual who has Dementia, from the onset of the illness through to the later stages. This ensures that, wherever your setting lays in the spectrum, it will be covered by the course and the content will therefore be relevant to your staff. The trainer will always place great emphasis on the fact that everyone is different and that therefore Dementia will affect each person in a unique way.

The course concentrates on the daily care of a person with Dementia and the importance of the care plan when dealing with the patient. The syllabus content also includes an explanation of communication difficulties, ways of responding to behaviours and person-centred care in relation to Dementia. We are careful to point out that some communication problems are treatable and should not necessarily be attributed to the condition.

By promoting independence and discussing the legislation around mental health, including a brief overview of the Mental Capacity Act 2005, we provide helpful and interesting explanations for delegates who are often aware of such acts without having in-depth knowledge of what they entail.

As the course draws to a close we suggest several support organisations who can be contacted for further advice on caring for an individual with Dementia, including the Alzheimer's Society for Dementia Care and Research.

Our Dementia Awareness training course is three hours in duration and costs GBP255 + VAT to train up to 12 delegates at your own premises. For further information, or to make a booking, please contact us today on 0800 310 2300 or visit http://www.firstresponsetraining.com
