SANTA MONICA, CA, March 04, 2009
/24-7PressRelease/ -- The new 2009 Santa Monica Official Visitors Guide, a publication of Santa Monica Convention & Visitors Bureau, designed and published by Striker Media Group, is an essential tool in planning your next trip to Santa Monica. The city is a destination suited for every travel pulse from business trips to family vacationing or weekend getaways to a night on the town. 2009 Visitors Guides are available at any of the three Santa Monica Visitors locations, online at santamonica.com or ask a concierge at any Santa Monica hotel.
This year the guide has a fresh new design starting with all new photography and a modern innovative look inspired by the launch of Santa Monica's new website last year, creating a cohesive brand image for the city. The 2009 guide not only contains everything you need to know about the city but is also interspersed with additional unique sections such as Milestones, Town Tidbits, Public Art Alerts and I Am Santa Monica testimonials from the locals. The end result is an original and fun portrait of the city emphasizing integral aspects of Santa Monica that may not have otherwise been considered or explored.
This year is a historically significant milestone for the beloved Santa Monica Pier as it celebrates it's Centennial, which is why the cover boasts a spectacular photo of the Pier from the early 1900s. Paying homage to this once in a lifetime occasion, a two-page spread has been dedicated to the Pier's role over the past century with a look at the myriad of activities and events taking place. Milestones are featured throughout the guide to highlight the various anniversaries and benchmarks in Santa Monica, including hotspots like Michael's Restaurant celebrating a 30-year anniversary and The Lobster's "green" accomplishments with the addition of 54 solar panels.
"We faced an exciting challenge in our design process this year to incorporate the many special and unique activities taking place in Santa Monica in 2009 in both style and content," said Lyndell Gooch, Publisher at Striker Media Group. " Advancing the brand image of the Santa Monica CVB is a top priority for us when approaching the concept of the new Visitors Guide, as we are always inspired to create a cutting edge product for such a diverse and unique city."
The Green Facts throughout the guide are snippets of eco-friendly and sustainable information showing the extent of Santa Monica's green efforts throughout the city. Town Tidbits inform the reader of fun facts such as which restaurants have received a Michelin star rating, the dispute over where Route 66 really ends or the top seven places to watch the sunset. Public Art Alerts pop up throughout the guide as a reminder of how art and culture in Santa Monica are woven throughout the city, sometimes showing up in surprising places such as Manfred Miller's art installation beneath the pier, or the Singing Beach Chairs in the sand North of Pico.
Santa Monica locals get their say with unique and pertinent quotes appearing throughout the guide. Sidebar lists with original pointers to help visitors find cool java joints; great tasting burgers; the top spots for late night munchies; pet friendly dining; and delicious ways to dine for less than $40.
"The launch of our redesigned website last October set the stage for the look and feel of our 2009 visitor guide. The guide and our website offer a glimpse into the innovative and creative spirit that is part of what makes Santa Monica so appealing," said Kim Baker, Director of Marketing at SMCVB.
The guide captures the quintessence of Santa Monica's appeal as a destination and proudly includes the city's wealth of attractions and high quality range of dining, accommodations and shopping. There is also great coverage of essential information on parking, traffic rules, how to dress, computer standards and electrical currents, tipping and smoking dos and don'ts, telephone services and a mileage map showing the distances to other cities in Southern California. In the center of the guide are simple and easy-to-follow maps of the greater Santa Monica and Los Angeles areas.
The unique spirit of Santa Monica comes alive on the page with breathtaking new photography. Images of the city's magnificent beaches, palm-lined shopping streets, world-renowned chefs, restaurants and bustling nightlife illuminate the guide with vibrancy and accentuate the mellow sophistication and charm of Santa Monica.
