Inventor Joseph Williams, president and founder of Innovative Custom Products, Inc. a Wisconsin company, came up with an idea after noticing that most cell phone holders were just for cell phones and worn primarily on the waist. He also noticed that many cell phone owners were starting to hang their phones from their Neck Badge-Holder, especially those that wore shorts and particularly females who typically do not wear belts. Williams said that he also noticed a trend in teenage fashions, "loose waist belt or no belt" resulting in the lack of a secure place to park their cell phones. Besides, "when I go to a football game or travel, all I need is my cell phone, ID, money, and my keys where it's easily accessible, yet safe and secure", said Williams.
According to Williams, his research later confirmed that the cell phone accessory market did not directly cater to sport fans, boaters, walkers, teenage trends, and OnTheGo consumers who typically would like the convenience of carrying just a few "wallet or purse items" and a cell phone with them without the hindrance of a bulky purse or a traditional bag. So he created a line of fashionable, skinny Cell Phone Pouches that have multiple-compartments like a wallet and provide "cross-over functionality" (the ability to wear the pouch on your waist, neck, shoulder, or even fit it in a small purse). Williams said, "I believe SkinnyPouch will become a popular "Carry-On" for air travelers as well as the Cell Holder of choice among sport fans, boaters, and students, due to its size, convenience and cross-over functionality".
According to Williams, the SkinnyPouch has emerged into a full line of products including a slim & skinny cell phone shoulder bag, a Wallet Pouch for the guys and a Hygiene Pouch for the ladies. SkinnyPouch comes in various colors such as black, pink, and yellow and also available in nylon or leather. Williams said that it took only about 12 months to ink an agreement with Meijers Superstores, a 180-store Midwest chain, and he expects to sign his next national chain of 400 Pilots and Luv's Convenience Travel Stops in a few weeks. He said he expects other merchants like Walgreens, CVS, and Airport Shops to carry SkinnyPouch within the next 12-18 months. The company projects SkinnyPouch sales to exceed $1 million within the next 18 to 24 months. Williams also said that he created the "hip-hop jingle", "People Everywhere Are Doing The SkinnyPouch " that will begin airing as a TV and radio commercial nationwide later this year.
