TriNimbus Commits to Open Data Innovation as Sponsor of Canadian National CODE Appathon

TriNimbus AWS Consulting partner sponsors national CODE event.

VANCOUVER, BC, February 26, 2014 /24-7PressRelease/ -- TriNimbus, a cloud services provider specializing in Amazon AWS deployments and management for Government, SMB and enterprise clients in Canada, today announced it will provide sponsorship for the national Appathon - the Canadian Open Data Experience (CODE) - hosted by Toronto-based XMG Studio in partnership with the Federal Government of Canada. The CODE Appathon taking place the weekend of February 28th 2014, will challenge students, technology innovators, developers and Open Data supporters from all across Canada to turn valuable government data into useful and usable apps and information. The 48-hour Appathon will pit developers against other enthusiasts to create the winning application. A panel of judges will make the final selection, which will be announced at an event at the end of March.

"We have only begun to scratch the surface on the opportunities Open Data represents," stated Jarrod Levitan, Chief Cloud Officer of TriNimbus. "We are excited about the potential of combining the power and scale of cloud computing, with the smarts and energy of the participants from all over Canada, to create useful applications that change lives. We literally jumped at the chance to be involved and support such an initiative."

The CODE Appathon will serve as a forum for innovation and entrepreneurship that can stretch the boundaries of Open Data and enable technologists to 'get their hands dirty' sharing ideas, inventing, researching the market, and starting the process for commercializing ideas, focusing on Big Data, Cybersecurity, and Open Government. Combining corporate data with government data sets can open up new opportunities, delivering commercial value more quickly and providing more meaningful solutions for customers.

"Our Government believes that Open Data is one of the new, great resources of the 21st century, and it is part of our commitment to be at the forefront of a movement that is spreading around the world," said the Honourable Tony Clement, President of the Treasury Board and official facilitator of CODE. "Appathons are great educational tools. They create real world opportunities to code and build apps that have value to users. I look forward to seeing what open data enthusiasts will come up with for both these challenges."
