Press Release September 7, 2008
She attributes her success to the support she received being raised by her single mother and the teachers in her lives who have served as positive role models.

/24-7PressRelease/ - Owings Mills, MD, September 7, 2008, Tristie L. Tappin, Outreach Worker and Behavioral Health Technician for the Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in all aspects of counseling.

A specialist in crisis intervention, case management, peer support and counseling adolescents in crisis, Ms. Tappin currently works with the Public Inebriate Initiative Team. She plays an integral role in the recently launched substance abuse rehabilitation services offered by the Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services by encouraging adults to seek treatment. Ms. Tappin previously worked as an intern therapist for the GUIDE Program, Inc. and considers helping people to be the most fulfilling aspect of her career. She became involved in her profession because of her interest in child psychology. A recipient of the Montgomery County Department of Police Peer Support Team Unit Citation, she attributes her success to the support she received being raised by her single mother and the teachers in her lives who have served as positive role models. She believes the most important issue facing her profession today is the lack of appropriate managed care which influences lack of appropriate care in services received by clients.

Currently pursuing her Doctorate of Education in Counseling Psychology at Argosy University/Washington, DC and a Certificate of Advanced Study in Education in Administration and Supervision from Loyola College in Maryland, Ms. Tappin received her Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Bowie State University in 1999 and her Master of Arts in Professional Counseling from Argosy University in 2007. Ms. Tappin also works with Reid Temple Restoration Center, Inc., which provides lay and clinical counseling to the members of the community surrounding Reid Temple AME Church in Glenn Dale, MD. In this capacity, she conducts curriculum research for the Youth Empowerment Circle Series which provides psychoeducational groups to high school students on topics such as self-esteem, body image, communication and decision-making. She is a member of the Montgomery County Crisis Intervention Team, Chi Sigma Iota Counseling and Academic Honor Society International, the Montgomery County Law Enforcement Gospel Choir and a student member of both the Maryland Psychological Association and the American Counseling Association. Ms. Tappin feels her most significant contribution with the choir was providing a service as an outreach ministry to the citizens of the Washington, DC metropolitan area by participating in such events as the Law Enforcement Memorial Celebrations and Montgomery County Diversity Day. She stays current with the trends in her profession by reading newsletters, books, and researching through the internet and hopes to become a school administrator and develop a private practice in the future.
