PORT VILA, VANUATU, November 08, 2008
/24-7PressRelease/ -- Nations around the world face financial crises, yet people flocked by the thousands to the Melbourne Cup Race in Australia. This is a day when the entire nation of Australia stops to celebrate the once-a-year horse race. When Australians live abroad they still stop to celebrate the second Tuesday in November.
Just three and a half hours plane flight north east of Sydney Australia, Vanuatu has a population of around 3000 Australian expats. Women turn up for one of the major events of their social calendar - the Ladies Melbourne Cup Day Luncheon.
Dressed in their finest gear, the ladies turned up for one of the major events on the social calendar - the Ladies Melbourne Cup Day Luncheon. You could be excused for thinking you were in Australia, instead of sitting on an exotic tropical island in the South Pacific.
The guests were greeted with a glass of a lethal tasting fruit punch, quickly followed by buckets of iced champagne. The ladies were decked out in a wide range of exotic looking hats, beautiful outfits, right down to extreme high heels.
As the temperature soared under the marquee the music and chatter increased as the champagne quickly disappeared. Various sweepstakes and raffles were run throughout the afternoon, including the auctioning off of three 'beach boys'. A large TV screen took pride of place for the screening of the Melbourne Cup Horse Race.
The celebration under the marquee flowed well into the night, leaving one wondering just who was looking after the 'family' and how many ladies found it necessary to be chauffeured home.
All in all it is a lot of fun and certainly more enjoyable than fighting your way through 100,000 people to sit at the real Melbourne Cup. The next day you can be soaking up the sun in the warm waters of the ocean or in a resort swimming pool.
Our suggestion is that ladies circle the first Tuesday of November 2009 as a great day to visit the tropical island of Vanuatu. If you pack the most outrageous outfit you can find you will blend in beautifully with the local exotic colour.
If you would like to know how you too could live on a tropical island take a few minutes to check out Win A Resort (http://winaresort.com). Dr Wendy and her husband are CEOs of YouMe Support Foundation, (http://youmesupport.org) supplying high school education grants to kids who will never go to high school without outside assistance. This is a world first, Blue Moon Opportunity, you can't afford to miss.
