PORT VILA, VANUATU, November 08, 2008 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Vanuatu, a tropical island nation in the South Pacific, is fast becoming a gourmet food and coffee destination. On the 13th and 14th November it is holding its annual International Barista Competition. Barista Coffee is the professional excellence in the artistry of creating a great coffee.

Coffee experts and amateur coffee makers will join together from all over the world to consider how to make the best expresso coffee. International Barista judge, Rob Forsyth, from Sydney Australia, will oversight the event and judge the entries.

Le Lagon Resort overlooks the Pacific Ocean and will host the competition in its grounds. Vanuatu is the home of its world renowned organic coffee, Tanna Coffee, grown on the tropical island of Tanna.

Hotel owner and Barista organizer, Joanne Wade of Poppys on the Lagoon said, "We had our first competition last year and it proved to be an enormous success. Barista Vanuatu is now schedules as an annual event on the Vanuatu social calendar. The atmosphere around Port Vila during the competition time and the prizes alone, including air fares, are enough to draw numerous entrants, makes for an unbeatable location for this international event."

On a worldwide scale, appreciation of good coffee and coffee growing has grown dramatically in the past few years. Organically grown coffee beans now feature large on supermarket shelves and making caf latte has become caf art.

Sponsors of the 2008 Barista Vanuatu include the ANZ bank, Poppys on the Lagoon, Air Vanuatu, Le Lagon Resort, Friendly Bungalows on Tanna and Tanna Coffee

Entries can be made on the Barista Vanuatu official web site http://www.baristavanuatu.com
