Cheryl Kaye Tardif is giving away over 60 prizes to her followers on the popular social network Twitter. The contest officially started when the author reached 750 followers. Originally, she advertised that her contest would start when she had 10,000 followers, but she realized early on that it was a hefty goal. "I saw someone else on Twitter asking for 10,000 followers so I thought it must be attainable in a short period of time. I guess if you're Demi Moore or Ashton Kutcher it would be, but I'm neither."
Tardif is best known for her critically acclaimed bestselling novel
Whale Song, which is currently in negotiations for a major motion picture. "A respected US film producer contacted me about 3 weeks after I got all my rights back from the publisher. There's even talk of a 3rd print edition with a MAJOR New York publisher."
Now with a bit of a break, Tardif is focusing on connecting with her readers and fans, and networking on sites like Twitter, Facebook and MySpace. She is considered to be a "shameless promoter", which has become her nickname. She recently started a side business as a book marketing coach. "I always have promotional ideas. My work background was in advertising, sales, promotion and motivational speaking. I've experimented over the years, perfected some techniques and now share this information with my clients."
Cheryl Kaye Tardif has spoken at a number of writers' conferences, in Canada and the US. This weekend, she's slated to teach a session on marketing using social networks at the Get Publishing Conference in Edmonton, Alberta. Of course she'll be mentioning her Twitter Contest and how it has already spawned book sales.
