MIAMI, FL, November 16, 2008 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The Cintas Foundation, granting awards in the visual arts and humanities since 1963, is pleased to announce that two of its 2008 Fellowship recipients have been chosen to speak at the 25th annual Miami International Book Fair. The Cintas Foundation awards fellowships annually to creative artists of Cuban lineage who are currently residing outside of Cuba.

Armando Bayolo, Cintas Foundation Brandon Fradd Fellow in music composition, and Adrian Castro, Cintas Foundation Fellow in creative writing, will participate in the book fair's joint panel on Saturday, November 15 at 1:00 pm at Miami-Dade College's downtown campus.

Cintas Fellowships acknowledge creative accomplishments and encourage excellence in architecture, literature, music composition and the visual arts. The Cintas Fellowship Program is administered by the Cintas Foundation Board and the Cintas Fellowship Program at the Frost Art Museum at Florida International University.

"It is an honor for two of our current Fellows to be asked to participate on the panel at the Miami International Book Fair," said Hortensia Sampedro, president of the Cintas Foundation. "This event is of great cultural significance to our community, and it is a wonderful opportunity for Armando and Adrian to share their work and visions."

The Cintas Foundation was established with funds from the estate of the late Oscar B. Cintas, a former Cuban ambassador to the United States and a prominent industrialist and patron of the arts. Cintas Fellowships acknowledge demonstrated creative accomplishments and encourage the development of creative artists in architecture, literature, music composition, and the visual arts. Past recipients include Pulitzer-Prize winning novelist Oscar Hijuelos, playwright Maria Irene Fornes, painter Carlos Alfonzo, photographer Andres Serrano, architect Andres Martin Duany, sculptor Maria Elena Gonzales, and composer Orlando Garcia. In addition to the fellowships, the Cintas foundation oversees two major art collections in the United States and sponsors exhibitions curated from these collections. The Cintas Fellows collection is composed of works donated by the fellows in appreciation of the Cintas fellowship. It has grown to be the largest body of Cuban art outside of Cuba and continues to grow regularly.
