Two Film Production Companies Plan to Fund and Produce Documentary Films in Mexico

Golden Phoenix Productions plans to produce a series of documentary programs about unsolved murders of more than 300 women in Mexico. Canana Productions plans to fund documentary films and programs about the poverty and injustice in Mexico.

LOS ANGELES, May 20, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Mexican movie stars Gael Garcia Bernal and Diego Luna plan to fund a series of new television programs and documentary films.

"Documentaries show us the injustices in the countries where we live, this problem exists," Garcia Bernal has repeated on numerous occasions. "We can't escape it."

"Each day it's harder to live in this country and in this city and turn a blind eye to the poverty and injustice," said Luna.

Golden Phoenix Productions has agreed to produce a number of television documentaries about the unsolved murders of more than 300 women in the border city of Ciudad Juarez, across from El Paso, Texas. Tom Golden, who owns Golden Phoenix Productions, said he is excited about the new venture. Golden said his company plans to open new offices in Mexicali, and Sonora Mexico.

Canana Productions, owned by Bernal and Luna, have previously announced plans to fund documentaries examining the failures of the Mexican judicial system to resolve the border city murders.

Golden is a retired U.S. Army intelligence officer who served a long and distinguished career while assigned for duty with the CIA and other U.S. Government intelligence agencies. During the Vietnam war, Golden was assigned to the CIA's super secret Phoenix Program. The movie "Spy Game" was based in part on Golden's intelligence career. Robert Redford played the character Nathan Muir which was Golden's code name while he was assigned to the Phoenix Program.

After Golden retired from the government, he became a visionary businessman who has excelled not only as a television and film producer, but also as a real-estate investor, professional photographer, and international business development expert.

Bernal and Luna have been friends and actors since childhood appearing in such films as "Y Tu Mama Tambien", "The Motorcycle Diaries", "Bad Education", "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind", "The Science of Sleep" and "Babel". Bernal appeared as Che Guevara in the TV miniseries "Fidel."
