/24-7PressRelease/ - AMMAN, JORDAN, July 27, 2005—Two students from the Princess Sumaya University for Technology (PSUT) participated at workshops of the International Enterprise Summer School held in the Scottish city of Edinburgh in the period of 26th-31st June.

The workshops were organized by the Scottish Institute for Enterprise (SIE), which invited PSUT to take part in the summer school that aims at inspiring students' entrepreneurial skills and commercial awareness. The two PSUT students were nominated by the President of the Princess Sumaya University for Technology, Professor Hisham Ghassib, and advisor to the Board of Trustees Mr. Mohammad Asfour. The two students are: Shatha Al Haj and Tara Nofal.

It was a good opportunity for the participating students to interact and come in direct contact with business leaders and entrepreneurs who can help give them a better understanding of what it takes to startup a business. One of the SIE's workshops was the Planformance, which is a one-day enterprise workshop aimed at equipping participants with the knowledge and ability to apply a set of planning principles to current and future projects, activities or business concepts. Planformance sets out four areas of objectives: thinking, planning, feeling and doing. It is a tool that applies to the students, both individually and as a group, where they can use it repeatedly with great impact on their confidence and ability to plan.

Other workshops also trained students on how to represent themselves with "Pitching" ideas based on sales and marketing techniques; how to conduct business planning; and how to convert a thought into an action plan.

The Jordanian students were pleased to participate at the SIE workshops, saying it was a unique opportunity for them, as they were the only Jordanian students there and put forth their best effort to represent their country and university as best they could.

The students said, "Being given the chance to interact with students from around the world, to exchange experiences and learn from each others, and to be trained and mentored by entrepreneurs and successful business men, was itself something that gives a better vision on how to spread entrepreneurship, and fills you with the inspiration and motivation that brings the best out of everyone."

Shatha Al Haj commented on her participation in the SIE workshops by saying, "It helped in enhancing my business awareness, gave me wider perspective on how to start my own business and how to overcome the possible challenges. I also interacted with experts and world students, from whom I learned much about self-sufficient skills. The workshops also helped me in establishing a solid network and partnership with amazing people. It is a future reference for me when I plan to start an international business with better entrepreneurial vision."

As for Tara Nofal, she said, "My goal was to meet new people and establish my own global network of contacts. I also learned on how to set up a business, and to develop my team skills." Both Shatha and Tara pointed that the SIE workshops were "perfect follow-up to MIT's global start-up workshop in Abu Dhabi earlier this year, where we learned how to organize business plan competitions."

After four days of intensive workshops and massive information, the two students believed they have fulfilled the projected goals and achieved an excellent outcome that went beyond the primary goals, both proficiently and personally.
