/24-7PressRelease/ - MANCHESTER, ENGLAND, April 21, 2007 - There is good news for martial arts fans. Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is going to organize an event titled UFC 70: Nations Collide on Saturday, April 21, 2007 at Manchester Evening News Arena in Manchester, England.
This event is going to be the first event of this type to be held in Manchester and second of this type in UK. It is for the seventeenth time that UFC 70 is going to be organized outside the United States.
Many famous wrestlers are scheduled to fight in this event. Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipović, PRIDE FC Open-Weight Grand Prix champion, will fight heavyweight prospect Gabriel Gonzaga in the main event. Former UFC Heavyweight Champion Andrei Arlovski will fight Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt Fabricio Werdum. In the event, Michael Bisping will fight for the first time in England since winning the Ultimate Fighter 3 light heavyweight tournament.
In the event UFC 70: Nations Collide, originally there was another fight scheduled to be held between the Ultimate Fighter 1 light heavyweight winner Forrest Griffin and Brazilian Lyoto Machida. Later it was postponed as Griffin had become ill with a staph infection. In his place light heavyweight David Heath will fight in the event. Davis is undefeated in the UFC at 2-0.
Spike TV is going to telecast this event in North America at 9 pm EST with a tape delay. It will also be broadcast live on pay-per-view in the United Kingdom and Ireland on Setanta Sports. Earlier UFC was negotiating with HBO for the telecasting rights. However, it didn't materialize.
Ultimate Fighting Championship is a U.S.-based mixed martial arts (MMA) organization. It is a major promotor of MMA in North America. It is based in Las Vegas and owned and operated by Zuffa, LLC is an American sports promotion company.
