EDINBURGH, SCOTLAND, June 30, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Travellers can search for the best prices on both direct and indirect flights at Skyscanner.net, allowing them to choose what is more important, price or time. For the budget conscious, savings of up to 48% can be made by selecting the indirect route option.

For example:
Save $1,096 on flights to Australia

Are you looking for cheap flights to Sydney? Visitors to Sydney in October can save up to 48% by flying indirect from San Francisco, adding 13 hours to their flight - by choosing Air Canada flights via Vancouver from $1,195, rather than the direct United Airlines service from $2,291. While in Vancouver, take the opportunity to visit Stanley Park, stroll along Robson Street, or test your fear factor on the Capilano Suspension Bridge.

Save $423 on flights to India
If you're looking for airfare deals, consider this. Flights from New York with Aeroflot from JFK to Delhi via Moscow in October cost from USD $899, rather than direct with Air India from $1,322. The indirect flights take only six hours longer and passengers can save up to 32%.

Save $407 on flights to Bangkok
Save up to 29% on airfare deals to Bangkok in October from New York's JFK by flying via Hong Kong with Cathay Pacific from $996, compared to direct with Thai Airways prices from $1,403. The less expensive indirect flights add three hours and 30 minutes to the journey time.

A previous Skyscanner study which questioned whether users would be willing to take an indirect flight to save money found that more than three quarters of users would consider the indirect option, with 20% of those polled seeing a believing a stopover to be a bonus if they got to see another city.

Barry Smith, Skyscanner's Business Development Director said: "In tightened financial times, finding a significant saving on flights can mean the difference between taking a holiday or not."

Smith continued: "We recognise priorities differ from person to person and whilst flying direct is undoubtedly more convenient, the savings offered by some indirect routes can be very attractive for some of our customers."
