USMC Vietnam Pilot Reveals the Atrocities of War and PTSD through Poetry

The Dark Side of Heaven is a moving collection of military verse

"I just finished reading Gene's poems. With tears in my eyes, I read each one twice, bringing back powerful memories. Gene was a great friend and wingman." - Captain Peter Erenfeld, USMC, VMA-311

DALLAS, TX, December 03, 2015 /24-7PressRelease/ -- In a moving collection of verse, two-time Distinguished Flying Cross recipient Captain Robert "Gene" Lathrop gives readers a glimpse of what it was like to fly bombing missions over Vietnam. Gut wrenching and real, Lathrop taps into the dark tapestry of a controversial war, the effects of which resulted in a severe bout of PTSD.

As a part of USMC squadron VMA-311, he flew almost 300 missions over a thirteen month deployment during the TET offensive of 1968. Lathrop believed that although veterans become conditioned to the intense survival skills required in war, they have difficulty recovering the emotional intelligence required to live in peace. "We have a responsibility to our veterans when they return to our peacetime society to aid them to recover after their sacrifices."

Inspiring and thought-provoking, the poems and photography ofThe Dark Side of Heaven will keep fans reading and reflecting long into the night.
