Vancouver-born Author's Novel Attracts Hollywood

With 3 published novels--one an Amazon Bestseller--Vancouver-born author Cheryl Kaye Tardif is overwhelmed by the huge response from film producers in Canada and the US.

/24-7PressRelease/ - VANCOUVER, CANADA - June 02, 2007 - With 3 published novels--one an Amazon Bestseller--Vancouver-born author Cheryl Kaye Tardif is overwhelmed by the huge response from film producers in Canada and the US. In the past three years, all of Tardif's novels have been considered for major motion pictures, MOW (movie of the week) or TV series. She is now negotiating a deal for a motion picture for her 2005 suspense thriller The River.

Tardif was approached by a Canadian film producer/director in early May, who wrote "I would love to be able to develop a screenplay based on it, and then shoot the film." He went on to say that the story was "universal enough that it could be shown anywhere in the world" and that after reading a few thrillers, The River "stood out because not only was it a good thriller, but [it dealt] with universal issues". Terms and numbers for a motion picture are in negotiation, and Tardif will be co-screenwriter.

Her April release, Whale Song, made Amazon.ca's BESTSELLERS list four days after the novel launched. According to publisher Kunati Books, it has nearly sold out of its first print run and review copies have been in high demand. Numerous film companies, including some from Hollywood, are reading Whale Song in consideration for a major motion picture.

The multi-generational, multicultural novel is set predominantly in Canada--in Bamfield, Victoria and Vancouver, and tackles sensitive societal issues--racism, bullying and assisted suicide. With the infamous Dr. Jack Kevorkian's imminent release from prison in June, Whale Song's approach to the assisted suicide controversy is a timely hot topic. Tardif has already been contacted by a Toronto radio station for an interview on this.

Tardif, who currently lives in Edmonton, AB, will be signing books at various Chapters bookstores in the Vancouver area from June 6th - 10th, and then the Victoria Chapters on June 15th as part of her 3-month Whale Song Book Tour.
