RICHMOND, VA, November 25, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Project 4063's goal is to leverage social media tools such as Facebook, Twitter, Digg, LinkedIn and Flickr to promote fundraising and food donation events for William Byrd Community House (WBCH). Two recent events, Hashbrown Networking and The New Media Mixer, were both very successful in collecting monetary donations and food items for the non-profit organization. A third and final event is being held on Thursday, Dec. 3, 2009 from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. in the Temple Building at VCU. The day-long food drive will give people in the community an opportunity to help WBCH support and provide the less-fortunate with some measure of comfort during the holidays.

"It's a great way for the students to practice the knowledge they gain in the classroom and, in these hard economic times, community organizations like William Byrd Community House need our help," said David Saunders, Adjunct Professor of MASC 491 Interactive Marketing at VCU and President & Chief Idea Officer of Madison+Main, Advertising & New Media.

The use of social media tools has enabled students in Project 4063 to effectively reach out to the community in several different formats, both online and offline. Between now and Dec. 3, these tools will play a major role in ramping up support for both the WBCH and Project 4063 itself.
