Virdell Everard Munsey Recognized by Marquis Who's Who for Career in Communications and Public Policy

He was appointed by three Virginia governors to terms on the Virginia Coal and Energy Commission



    LEESBURG, VA, January 24, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Virdell Everard Munsey has been included in Marquis Who's Who. Everard Munsey was recognized for his contributions to the fields of communications and public policy during a career in government and private sector positions. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree, magna cum laude, in political science from Yale University in 1955. Following military service, he was a reporter for the Washington Post where he received an award for distinguished reporting of public affairs from the American Political Science Association as well as a Washington Newspaper Guild reporting award. In 1963, he began working as a legislative assistant for Representative Henry S. Reuss. In 1966, he was designated an American Political Science Association Congressional Staff Fellow and attended Harvard University's John F. Kennedy School of Government where he earned the degree of Master of Public Administration. In the 1968 presidential campaign, he served as information officer of the United Democrats for Humphrey and, after Vice President Humphrey's nomination, as assistant director of public affairs for the Democratic National Committee. From 1969 to 1977, he was with the National Planning Association as executive vice president and from 1977 to 1981 was deputy assistant secretary for public affairs of the United States Treasury Department, winning the Department's exceptional service award. After a period of consultancy at the World Bank, Mr. Munsey joined Virginia Electric and Power Co. as manager of corporate communications in 1981. Subsequently, he was executive director for public policy and vice president for public policy for Virginia Power and in 1986 became vice president for public policy for Dominion Resources, Inc. after Virginia Power became a Dominion subsidiary. After retirement from Dominion Resources in 1996, he was a consultant on the electric industry. He was appointed by three Virginia governors to terms on the Virginia Coal and Energy Commission.

Mr. Munsey was elected in 1971 to a four year term on the Arlington County Board and served as its chairman in 1972. He was active in shaping regional transportation policy as a member and chairman of the Northern Virginia Transportation Commission and as a member of the Washington Council of Governments' Transportation Planning Board and as a director of the Washington Metropolitan Area Transportation Authority. He has been an officer or director of heritage societies, including the Pilgrim Henry Samson Kindred, the Pilgrim Hopkins Heritage Society and the Washington and Northern Virginia Company of the Jamestowne Society. He has been featured in the 44th through 70th editions of Who's Who in America, the 11th and 12th editions of Who's Who in Science and Engineering, and five editions of Who's Who in the South and Southwest.
