LOS ANGELES, CA, October 23, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Vision Practice Management, Inc., a practice management firm launched earlier this year by Dr. John Brinkley, OD, with CEO and senior consultant David Sanders, is poised to prove to doctors of optometry in Florida and neighboring states that increased profits can happen fast.
The company conducted a nationwide survey earlier this year that revealed that many optometrists are struggling, but only 23% have ever used an outside firm to aid or expand their practice. While this figure might suggest poor outcome when outside firms are consulted, surprisingly, 86% of optometrists who have used them report positive outcomes. The most oft-given reason optometrists are reluctant to take advantage of the proven success of outside consultants is that results are "down the road."
"It seems that many of my colleagues experience nervousness when it comes to investing in a practice management program, despite their needing one," says Brinkley.
Brinkley says he had no such trepidation. Less than 10 years into private practice he was convinced the key to a truly successful practice had to be the ability to manage and market. "It was obvious to me that many ODs had great clinical skills, but only a handful of practices were standouts. I made a lot of costly mistakes experimenting with my own practice and finally got tired of the lack of results. So 20 years ago I found pros who would teach me proven systems I could implement with predictable results."
Michael D'Alesio, O.D., of Pinellas Park, FL, is an early benefactor of Dr. Brinkley's and Sander's efforts. Dr. D'Alesio says he tracked his patient flow and income for many years and the 4th of July week was always the worst of the year for him. He also was settling for 3% expansion each year after 20 years in practice. "I had nearly forgotten my goal to really expand until David Sanders told me he thought he could boost my practice. I decided to give him a try and I know I'm on the right track now."
Why is Dr. D'Alesio convinced he is on the right track? His 4th of July week, predictably the worst of the year, doubled last year's numbers! Then August 2009 showed 25% higher patient volume (and 40% more income) than August of 2008.
Dr. Brinkley says such results are routine. Sanders is his consultant for all five of his own practices. They all produce far above industry standards without his having to be involved in day-to-day management. He enjoys one-on-one interaction with patients in the exam room and spends weeks away while his practices continue to purr profitably in his absence.
"Vision Practice Management began as a quest to help my colleagues have more happy patients and more prosperity. David Sanders is the man I have partnered with, because of his 33 year track record," says Brinkley. "He has built industry-leading practices in many fields," he added. "There could be a large number of things wrong in a practice. Finding the exact right thing that needs to be done first provides doctors the 'biggest bang for the buck' and is the key to a dramatic turnaround or viable expansion," says Dr. Brinkley.
"We work on a simple formula: more and happier patients fuel more prosperous practices," says Sanders. Brinkley and Sanders refer to their clients as Today's Optometrists. "They are ODs who are willing to move outside old models to make their patients happier and more excited about their practice," says Sanders.
