CHICAGO, IL, January 22, 2010
/24-7PressRelease/ -- Vocalo.org, 89.5 FM WBEW, Chicago Public Radio, 91.5 FM WBEZ, and Mindhearted, Inc. invite their listeners and the public to a series of facilitated conversations on varied topics of civic interest called Real Talk.
Though two radio stations co-host the Real Talk series, the conversations will not be recorded nor broadcast. Explains Real Talk series co-creator and Vocalo.org host producer Tom Herman, "When we put this series together, we talked about whether or not to record the conversations. We decided that candid conversation between neighbors is a value unto itself, and a rare thing in our society, and that the benefit of openness outweighed the potential of the recording."
Founder of Mindhearted, Inc., and Real Talk series co-creator Kara Burrell Wright will facilitate the conversation. About what participants can expect, Wright said, "This will be a dialogue and an experiential process that allows people to break their public silence about race, allows everyone to be heard, and hopefully encourages participants to leave with a new set of questions about their own assumptions."
The first conversation in the Real Talk series will be held on Saturday, January 30, and will confront race. It will take place at Little Black Pearl, 1060 E. 47th Street, Chicago, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Future installments of the Real Talk series will be hosted at the Chicago Public Radio neighborhood bureaus.
The series is free, though space is limited. Individuals interested in participating must register by e-mailing realtalk@vocalo.org or by calling (312) 893-2976 and receive an invitation.
