TUSTIN, CA, October 21, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Wahoo's Fish Taco, a community mainstay and worldwide pop culture phenomenon since 1988, today announced the opening of its new franchise location at the University of California, Irvine. Located on campus at UC Irvine's student center, the new restaurant will offer all of Wahoo's distinctive menu items like the Maui Bowl, Banzai Burrito and of course, the original fish taco. The company's UC Irvine location marks the first in a series of Wahoo's stores to be opened as part of the company's franchise expansion program.
"We are stoked about our new UCI location—it's the first on a UC campus, and looks like there may be others," said Wing Lam, co-founder and CEO of Wahoo's. "This is just the first step in our steady and strategic growth initiative. While equipping franchise partners to expand our success is a new endeavor, it's an exciting one; and we look forward to sharing our food and philosophy with a larger audience."
Opening this new Wahoo's at UC Irvine was an ideal choice—the restaurant provides great value to students and facility alike, offering healthy alternatives. Wahoo's will soon be providing its fish tacos to even more college students, with the company's next franchise opening located at Cal State Bakersfield. Marking the second Wahoo's opened under the recent franchise expansion plan, the restaurant will be fully operational by the end of 2009.
"Wahoo's has received an overwhelming response to our recent franchise expansion plans," said Tom Orbe, vice president of marketing, responsible for franchises for Wahoo's. "In addition to the two universities, we have also designated two more Wahoo's in Orange County. This completes the selection of our first group of stores in Southern California for the fall and the next selection of four takes place in the winter. In addition, the demand for our signature homemade food and family-friendly atmosphere expands beyond Southern California and we will have four more stores outside of southern California designated by the winter as planned.
