Wanda Kay Clontz Honored by Cambridge Who's Who for Excellence in Special Education

Education Specialist for Individuals with Developmental and Cognitive Disabilities

CHARLOTTE, NC, February 26, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Wanda Kay Clontz, Teacher with RHA Howell Care Centers, Inc., has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in all aspects of special education.

Ms. Clontz has 12 years of professional experience working with individuals who have developmental and cognitive disabilities. She specializes in teaching students with special needs as well as delivering alternative and augmentative communication sources. At her current post, she is responsible for teaching students grade-level curriculum with modifications for their communication and physical abilities, collecting data regarding individualized educational goals, monitoring student progress, writing individualized education programs, and training new employees. Additionally, Ms. Clontz is a professional interpreter for the hearing impaired and taught sign language courses for teenagers and adults. Prior to attaining her current position, she worked as a teacher at Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools as well as Desoto, Cabarrus and Union County Public Schools.

Creativity, a caring nature and faith in God are the driving forces behind Ms. Clontz' success. She received her Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction, with a concentration in special education, from the University of Mississippi in 2002, her Bachelor of Science in Special Education, with a concentration in mental handicaps, from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in 1996 and her Associate of Applied Science in Interpreter Training from Central Piedmont Community College in 1992. Ms. Clontz is a certified CPR instructor, English as a second language teacher, special education teacher, and first aid administrator. She served on the board of directors of Challenge, Inc. (1999-2004), was an assistant director with Camp Challenge (2000-2004), served as a judge for the Special Olympics (1998), and a coach for the Special Olympics (1994, 1997). A member of numerous who's who publications, she was included in Madison's Who's Who, Premiere International Who's Who, Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges, and Who's Who Among American High School Students. She has been a member of the Council for Exceptional Children and is a member of Phi Kappa Phi and the North Carolina Augmentative Communication Association. In the next few years, Ms. Clontz aspires to train future special education teachers while continuing to inspire her students to achieve their dreams and goals.
