/24-7PressRelease/ - NOIDA, UTTAR PRADESH - March 11, 2008 - The emergence of Web 2.0 in India is creating a buzz around the world. Community websites like BigAdda, MingleBox, Fropper, SirfDosti combined have contributed to add as many as 15 lakh users in the country. These websites are performing exceptionally well but are yet distanced from the threshold of achieving a comparable stature with their global counterparts.

A report generated by IDC, states that there are as many as 70 companies that have web 2.0 websites out of which, almost 55 of them are focusing themselves on consumers, where as only 12 of these sites are focusing their target on other enterprises and businesses.

India boasts of as many as 65 million pc literate people out of which 46 million people are claimed users, meaning those who have used internet at any point of time. (Source: IAMAI report 2007). Considering these numbers, the kind of usage that is being analyzed is comparatively much lesser than what could have been achieved. The web 2.0 activities here are centered only on areas like, social networking, blogging, video and photouploading and others in the same line.

These activities collectively are being responsible for the boom, the industry is experiencing at present. If other Web 2.0 activities like blogging, video marketing, sms marketing, forum submissions etc. are also utilized there would soon be a time when the Indian internet market would be at par with others who are leading the bandwagon. The country manager of IDC, Mr. Kapil Dev Singh was quoted commenting "...The trend is likely to continue in 2008 and a "me-too" driven mushrooming up will ready the ground for a phase of shakeouts and consolidation, as some of the ventures would begin to lose steam. This phase is expected to set in around late 2008 or early 2009. At the same time, 2008 will also see the entry of some large Web 1.0 players in the fray, which will help expand and grow the market."
