The grand prize winner of the Junior Press Corps Contest will conduct a one-on-one interview with Pedroia on July 8th at LeLacheur Park, the home of the Lowell Spinners. The interview will be videotaped and featured on WEEI.com and the article written from the interview will be published on WEEI.com. Prior to the interview, the winner will have an interview coaching session with WEEI.com Site Editor Rob Bradford at The Young Sportscaster of America facility. The grand prize winner will also participate in Salem Five's "Play Ball with Dustin!" event.
The Junior Press Corps Contest is in conjunction with Salem Five's "Play Ball with Dustin!" promotion, which will give children under 18 the chance to play baseball with Dustin Pedroia. One winner from each of Salem Five's 20 branches will be chosen to play ball with Dustin at LeLacheur Park on July 8th. The winning kids will meet the reigning American League Most Valuable Player, get his autograph, take photos, and receive coaching tips during fielding and batting practice. Members of the Lowell Spinners will also be in attendance to sign autographs for the children. In addition to the 20 winning kids, members of the Little League Challenger Division will also participate in the event.
The Gold Star Saver account (www.salemfive.com/goldstarsaver) is an interest-bearing free savings account designed specifically for kids. The account was created to help promote financial literacy and responsibility among kids, all while having fun. Dustin Pedroia has teamed up with Salem Five and is featured in informational videos that teach kids about different financial topics on the site. An adult joint owner is required for a Gold Star Saver Account, and Salem Five matches the first $10 deposited.
