/24-7PressRelease/ -- Richard Coons, a veteran sales executive with a history of leading dramatic company growth, has been named Vice President of Business Development at WellMed Medical Management, Inc., the company announced today.
In the newly created position, Coons will oversee the sales and marketing departments, working to further expand WellMed's dominance as the leading primary care provider for seniors in Greater San Antonio, and to grow the patient roster at clinics and affiliated physician offices in Austin, the Rio Grande Valley and Florida. WellMed is a growing diversified healthcare company specializing in senior care with more than 80,000 patients and insured members in four states.
Coons spent most of his career as a sales leader at computer software and Internet security companies in Dallas. Most recently, he served as Vice President of Sales for backgroundchecks.com, an industry-leading database of instant criminal record data owned by General Information Systems. During his 3-year tenure, sales grew 300 percent at backgroundchecks.com.
Prior to backgroundchecks.com, Coons was with iDEFENSE, a cyber-security intelligence company focused on analysis and prevention of emerging cyber threats and helping companies secure critical information networks from virus attacks and other malicious threat events.
Coons served as Regional Director for Southeast Corporate Accounts, targeting Fortune 1000 financial companies and regulated industries. He contributed to 250 percent sales growth in just 18 months, divesting his stake in iDEFENSE after Verisign acquired the company in July 2005.
Coons spent more than six years at Network Associates/McAfee as a sales director and manager, regularly exceeding multimillion-dollar sales quotas for the leading network security, anti-virus, data loss prevention and intrusion prevention solutions company.
A former Eagle Scout, Coons is a graduate of Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis.
