/24-7PressRelease/ -- A Welsh hospital is aiming to improve its carbon footprint with a new scheme designed to provide future power needs in an environmentally friendly way. An innovative emergency centre has been proposed at the Cefn Coed Hospital in Swansea, which would incorporate bio-fuel and wind turbine technology. The centre, which will be clad in cedar panels to blend in with the local environment, is hoped to provide sufficient power so as to reduce the hospital's reliance on fossil fuels. Lindsey Jones, assistant director of planning, said: 'It is planned to move away from the more traditional use of fossil fuels to an energy centre, producing all of the site's energy requirements with a low carbon footprint.' 'The wind turbine will contribute approximately ten per cent of the electrical energy and all of the other innovative designs will be sustainable, so it will be much better for the environment,' Ms Jones explained. 'It is the way forward for energy production and it is very positive that public buildings like hospitals are helping to lead the way.' The Welsh Assembly has pledged to ensure that all health facilities achieve an 'excellent' rating on the British Research Establishment's Environmental and Sustainability standards.
