SHERMAN OAKS, CA, February 12, 2011
/24-7PressRelease/ -- West Coast Aerial Photography, Inc., today announced that it's F-18 Rose Bowl flyover image has been displayed in a two-page spread in Sports Illustrated. At the conclusion of the National Anthem on January 1, 2011, four United States Navy F/A-18 Super Hornets, based at Naval Air Station Lemoore, California, flew over the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California, where the Texas Christian University Horned Frogs played the University of Wisconsin-Madison Badgers.
The F-18 image has been featured on a number of fan forums and sites, including Killer Frogs Fan Forum and Badger Nation, where it has received over 100,000 views and generated hundreds of comments.
"I am so happy and excited to have one of my photographs featured in Sports Illustrated," exclaims West Coast Aerial Photography President Mark Holtzman, who's 2009 B-2 image was also featured in Sports Illustrated, and went on to place in several international photojournalism competitions, including World Press Photo and Pictures of the Year International.
The F/A-18E/F Super Hornet is an advanced version of the McDonell Douglas F/A-18 Hornet, "a multi-role fighter designed for aircraft carrier duty and is the first tactical aircraft initially designed to carry out both air-to-air and air-to-ground missions," explains Boeing's website. Entering service with the U.S. Navy in 1999, the Super Hornet is "25 percent larger than the original Hornet and has increased maneuverability, range, payload and more powerful engines," according to Boeing.
Naval Air Station Lemoore is located near Lemoore, California, between Kings and Fresno counties. It is the Navy's largest master jet air station, housing 5 Carrier Air Wings, as well as, 8 Hornet & 12 Super Hornet Squadrons, including the Rose Bowl Flyover jets of the VFA-147 Argonauts.
Sports Illustrated, owned by Time Warner, is an American sports magazine read by 23 million adults weekly, according to the Sports Illustrated media kit.
