/24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Carlos Hernandez, President of WellMed Medical Group, will be honored at the 8th Annual Doctoral Achievement Awards Banquet sponsored by the West San Antonio Chamber of Commerce on Tuesday, September 29, 2009.
The awards ceremony begins at 5:30 p.m. with a VIP reception at El Tropicano Hotel, 110 Lexington Ave. Local community leaders in the areas of law, biomedicine, bioscience, education and medicine will be among the honorees. For ticket information, call the Chamber at (210) 299-5244.
Dr. Hernandez is President of WellMed Medical Group, the largest primary care provider for seniors in the Greater San Antonio area. Despite his administrative duties, Dr. Hernandez remains active as a practicing physician, seeing patients at the WellMed at North West 410 clinic.
At WellMed, Dr. Hernandez has served as Chief of Medical Affairs, Medical Director and Lead Physician, among other roles. He supervises more than 80 Physicians, Physician Assistants and Nurse Practitioners for WellMed Medical Group, which operates 21 clinics in the Greater San Antonio area. One in five Medicare-eligible seniors in this area is a WellMed patient.
Dr. Hernandez earned his medical degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch-Galveston, where he also completed his residency in Internal Medicine. Dr. Hernandez is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and American Board of Hospice and Palliative Care Medicine. He is a Fellow with the American College of Physicians, the largest society of internists in the world.
WellMed Medical Group is owned by WellMed Medical Management, founded nearly 20 years ago by Chairman and CEO George M. Rapier III, M.D., who was honored at last year's banquet.
