Westcoast Direct Solutions Examine Automation in Marketing

For gathering statistical data to be interpreted by humans, automation is amazing. However, to use it as a form of communication can be a nightmare. Social media is great in this regards but there is no doubt face to face marketing is more effective.

VANCOUVER, BC, August 21, 2015 /24-7PressRelease/ -- One of the most important facts today's marketer needs to learn is that 'the' group of consumers to reach is the Millennials. They comprise the biggest share of consumers, as 25% of the total population and their buying trends are evolving by the day. Here, Westcoast Direct Solutions examine how automation enables marketers to tap into those trends to increase sales for their clients.

"Social media is a big factor in automation. Technology is able to see what consumers are saying, quickly compile statistics, analyse the market by demographics and then 'suggest' advertising strategies that will appeal to those consumers. We use this type of analytics often and rely on data to meet the needs of our clients," says the managing director of Westcoast Direct Solutions.

However, there are problems with automation that just haven't been resolved yet and many experts believe that there may never be a solution. One of the key uses for automation is in sending out responses to Tweets and IMs but these have been known to go horribly wrong.

"I remember reading about an automated campaign used in the United States where someone responded to an automated tweet with something that was highly offensive. It took days to counteract all the bad press and there is some doubt that it will ever be totally corrected," The MD notes.

What the MD is referring to are the Tweets sent out by the NFL football team, the New England Patriots. Someone came back with a racial slur that wasn't picked up until at least an hour after it kept being re-Tweeted and it became a major PR nightmare for the team. This is why Westcoast Direct Solutions advise their clients that automation has its advantages but automated Tweets and IMs are not amongst them.

There is nothing quite like a human conversation where individuals interact and send meaningful messages that are positive and uplifting. In sales this is crucial and no matter how advanced automation is, it cannot interact on a personal level. "How could it? You're talking to a machine devoid of emotions and the human experience," he states.

For gathering statistical data to be interpreted by humans, automation is amazing. However, to use it as a form of communication can be a nightmare. Social media is great in this regards but there is no doubt face to face marketing is so much more effective. Why? The answer is simply because there is no way for a machine to duplicate the human experience and if there was, humans would be obsolete. That's a scary thought and one Westcoast Direct Solutions are happy to know will never happen.
