What is Ultherapy ?

Ultherapy is a new treatment that recently received FDA approval for facial rejuvenation.

WASHINGTON, DC, May 26, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- With cosmetic surgery so much in the news in recent years, you probably know that there is surgery to remove facial wrinkles, like facelifts, brow lifts, and neck lifts. You probably know about BOTOX Cosmetic injections, which temporarily smooth out frown lines and horizontal forehead lines for a more relaxed and youthful look.

You may not know about Ultherapy, and you may well be very interested in it. It is a new treatment that recently received FDA approval for facial rejuvenation. It is non-invasive and easy and is a great alternative to chemical peels, microdermabrasion, and laser skin resurfacing, all of which can be rather uncomfortable, depending on how deeply they have penetrated.

Ultherapy does not use a laser; it uses ultrasound. Ultrasound is a sound vibration that we humans cannot hear because it is higher than our sound range. Think of ultraviolet light, which we cannot see because its wavelength is shorter than the violet end of our visible spectrum. But UV rays can affect the skin dramatically and so can ultrasound.

How Does Ultherapy Help?
When ultrasound is directed below the skin surface to the layer called the dermis, it disturbs that layer with its vibration and a low level of heat. This causes it to react by producing more collagen and tighter new skin cells. By about two months after treatment, the new cells have replaced old cells to give the skin a fresher look and the extra collagen provides more skin support, smoothing out wrinkles.

The procedure is about one hour long and you would not need any anesthetic. You would feel some warmth in the skin and perhaps a prickly sensation but not really any discomfort. At first the skin looks pink or flushed but fades to normal within hours. Ultherapy is a "lunchtime" type of procedure in that you can return to work or normal activities immediately.

Ultherapy Results
After one treatment, you will see some immediate facial rejuvenation. You may want to have two or three treatments, depending on your skin condition to start with. According to where on your face you had the treatment done, you will enjoy:
- A tightening and lift of the brow line
- More youthful, smooth skin on the cheeks or throat
- More awake and alert-looking eyes
- More even skin coloring
- More snugly-fitting facial skin

Your particular skin type is not a factor, as Ultherapy works well for all types. It is also very safe, having been used in medicine for more than 50 years for sonography, liposuction, and bone or teeth regeneration, among other things.
