COLLEGE STATION, TX, February 15, 2018 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present William Robert Klemm, DVM, PhD, with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Dr. Klemm celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Dr. Klemm has been a senior professor of neuroscience and professor of veterinary integrative biosciences in the College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at Texas Agricultural and Mechanical (Texas A&M) University in College Station, TX, since 1980. Originally hired as a neuroscience researcher at the university in 1966, Dr. Klemm then spent 14 years as interim head and professor in the department of biology from 1966 to 1980. He previously taught as an associate professor in the department of physiology and pharmacology at Iowa State University in Ames between 1963 and 1966. His research interests are specific to neuroscience, with a focus in cognitive neuroscience, science writing and educational reform.
Just a few years ago, Dr. Klemm began teaching a new course at Texas A&M: an elective that combines neuroscience with religion, exploring how the two should inform and enrich each other. Although the course is based on reading assignments from his textbook "Core Ideas in Neuroscience," those principles are accompanied by religious and philosophic perspectives. For example, when discussing evolution of the nervous system, the students also consider the biblical book of Genesis and other creation stories. One of Dr. Klemm's goals for the course was to show students that science and theology can be complementary world views.
Dr. Klemm has written extensively and has served as an editor for various journals during his tenure. He is also the author of many books, most recently including "The Learning" in 2017, and "Making a Scientific Case for Conscience Agency and Free Will" in 2016. In addition to his teachings and writings, he has also been serving as a K-12 science consultant for the past 17 years.
Earning a DVM at Auburn University in 1958, Dr. Klemm then completed a PhD at Notre Dame University in 1963. Notably, he is a retired colonel of the U.S. Air Force Reserves and former captain who served from 1958 to 1960. He also served as a mobilization augmentee for the human systems division in San Antonio, TX, between 1981 and 1989. A longtime member of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, charter member of the Society of Neuroscience, and member of the National Science Teachers Association, Dr. Klemm has also been long affiliated with Sigma Xi, where he served as president of the Texas A&M University chapter and on the national board of directors.
The recipient of a Distinguished Alumnus Award from Auburn University in 2011, Dr. Klemm received a Distinguished Award from Sigma Xi's The Scientific Research Society and has been highlighted in many editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Education, Who's Who in Science and Education, Who's Who in the South and Southwest and Who's Who in the World. Married to his wife Doris Isabell Mewha until her passing, Dr. Klemm is the proud parent of two children and grandparent of nine grandchildren.
In recognition of outstanding contributions to his profession and the Marquis Who's Who community, William Robert Klemm, DVM, PhD, has been featured on the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement website. Please visit www.ltachievers.com for more information about this honor.
