William T. Eliason Honored for Accomplishments in Journalism & Publishing

Mr. Eliason's military career enabled him to transition to a career in professional military education

    WASHINGTON, DC, April 18, 2014 /24-7PressRelease/ -- William T. Eliason, Director of the National Defense University Press at the Department of Defense, has been named a Worldwide Branding Professional of the Year in Journalism & Publishing. While inclusion in Worldwide Branding is an honor, only a small selection of members in each discipline are chosen for this distinction. These special honorees are distinguished based on their professional accomplishments, academic achievements, leadership abilities, years of service, and the credentials they have provided in association with their Worldwide Branding membership.

Dr. Eliason, an expert in national security strategy and joint military operations, has been in his current role for over three years. He is leading a six-person university press staff responsible for the publication of the Joint Force Quarterly, the Chairman of the Joint Chief of Staffs professional military journal and for directing publications in support of the National Defense University mission. As a member of the university faculty, Dr. Eliason annually provides 45 hours of resident graduate joint professional military education for a seminar of 15 U.S. and international military officers as well as U.S. government civilian students at the Eisenhower School for National Security and Resource Strategy. Dr. Eliason is also an adjunct professor for the Georgetown University's Security Studies Program (SSP) is the academic pillar of the Center for Security Studies and one of eight master's degree programs offered in the Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service.

Prior to his current position, Dr. Eliason served as a military faculty member and director for the Joint Advanced Warfighting School, at the Joint Forces Staff College, Norfolk, Virginia and as the director of plans for the Seventh Air Force and U.S. Forces Korea, deputy commander for the 607th Air Support Operations Group and commander of the 603oJ Air Control Squadron. Throughout the course of his career, Dr. Eliason has presented on a variety of topics focusing most recently on nuclear arms control. He has also published a variety of papers, including "Bound to Deny? Nuclear Proliferation and its Dangers" and "Slowing the Genie's Spread: Reversing the Proliferation of Weapons of Mass Destruction." Currently, Dr. Eliason writing a book on the topic of arms control policies, the future of nuclear weapons in international relations. His success is due to his great mentors, persistence and skill set. His prior experiences as a combat-decorated military officer enabled him to successfully transition to a career as a leader in joint professional military education and leader development, publishing and civilian graduate education.

Dr. Eliason's distinguished educational accomplishments also set him up for success. He received a Ph.D. in international relations. with concentrations in U.S. foreign policy, cooperation and conflict from Old Dominion University in 2010; a Master of Airpower Art and Science from the School of Advanced Air and Space Studies from Air University in 1995, a Master of Science in systems management from the University of Southern California in 1988 and a Bachelor of Science from the U.S. Air Force Academy 198). He maintains affiliations with the Air Force Association, the American Political Science Association, the Civil Air Patrol and the International Studies Association. Recently inducted into Worldwide Branding, Dr. Eliason has received numerous other accolades, including a Department of Defense Civilian Performance Award in 2011, a Defense Superior Service Medal, a Bronze Star Medal, a Defense Meritorious Service Medal, three Meritorious Service Medals, an Air Medal, two Joint Service Commendation Medals, an Air Force Commendation Medal, an Air Force Achievement Medal, three NATO Medals, an Outstanding Research Award from the Air Command and Staff College in 1993, the Headquarters Air Staff Badge and various overseas campaign medals and unit awards. He also holds a FAA Private Pilot Certificate, and is a second lieutenant in the Civil Air Patrol, the USAF Auxiliary.
