Winston Kent Pendleton, III Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

The son of Winston Kent Pendleton II and Pauline Crouch Pendleton, Dr. Pendleton was born on November 30, 1940 in Jacksonville, Florida. Dr. Pendleton graduated from the University of Michigan with a BS in Science Engineering in 1962, becoming a commissioned second lieutenant for the US Air Force shortly afterwards. Dr. Pendleton continued his studies at the Air Force Institute of Technology, where he obtained a MS in Nuclear Engineering in 1964 and a PhD in Aerospace Engineering in 1971.

From 1973 to 1980, Dr. Pendleton was a professor of physics at the US Air Force Academy. From 1980 to 1982, he was the chief scientist of the European Office Aerospace R&D at the US Air Force Academy. He was a nuclear research officer at Air Force Weapons Laboratory between 1982 and 1985. His achievements include research on the laser triggered switch. He developed techniques for density and temperature measurement on laser­produced plasmas. In the meantime, he advanced through grades to colonel in 1984.

In 1985, Dr. Pendleton began his work as a professor of aerospace studies at Georgia Institute of Technology. In 1988, he moved to the North Georgia College as a professor of physics. He was an online math course administrator, as well as a math and science tutor at Douglas County High Schools until he retired. Dr. Pendleton has published articles to a variety of professional journals. He is also a member of the Decorated Legion of Merit.

As an esteemed aerospace engineer and educator, Dr. Pendleton is a member of a variety of scientific organizations, including Docent Mount Dora Florida Center for the Arts, Gilbert Rotary Centennial Observatory, Docent Wildlife Experience, Douglas County Student Support Center, Outstanding Vol. Gilbert, Arizona, East Valley Astronomy Club, Omicron Delta Kappa, Phi Kappa Phi, Sigma Pi Sigma, Cherry Creek Valley Rotary Club, and Wildlife Experience. He was a board director of W.T. Bland Library from 1997 to 1999, as well as a president of Florida Rotary Club and an assistant of the Rotary District Governor in 1999.

Dr. Pendleton has appeared in various Marquis Who's Who publications, including the 31st edition of Who's Who in Finance and Industry. He has been featured in the 53rd, 55th, 57th, 58th, and 63rd editions of Who's Who in America, as well as the 4th through 10th editions of Who's Who in Science and Engineering and the 20th, 21st, and 24th editions of Who's Who in the World. On August 26, 1964, he married Judith McCutcheon. Together, the couple raised three children--Winston Kent IV, Scott Everett, and Wendy Paige McPhillips.
