Potter's Crackers originated with Nancy and Peter Potter, a dynamic mother and son duo now in Madison, Wisconsin. It was Nancy's idea to enter the cracker business following the sale of the New Glarus Bakery which she had owned for over 25 years. Combining her baking experience with Peter's food-science degree training earned at UW-Madison, the Potters created organic crackers which immediately attracted a following of gourmet-food enthusiasts. Peter put the emphasis on freshness, nutrition, and agricultural sustainability. Potter's crackers are 100% organic and made in small batches with milled whole grains grown on Wisconsin farms. Peter buys organic milk and butter from local dairies. He contracts with south-central Wisconsin farmers to grow the herbs that Nancy and crew bake into the distinctively-flavored crackers. The result is a superbly-fresh, crisp cracker more reminiscent of homemade, flat bread than a standard, store-bought cracker. Begun only three years ago, this family business is expanding rapidly.
