Women of Distinction Magazine Selects Alicia Patterson as a Distinguished Professional in Her Field

Alicia Patterson will be featured in the upcoming edition of the Women of Distinction Magazine in 2015/2016.

DENVER, CO, December 03, 2015 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Alicia Patterson, Dance Movement Therapist, Birth Doula, and Yoga Instructor for Alicia Patterson LLC, has been recognized as a Distinguished Professional in her field through Women of Distinction Magazine. Alicia Patterson will be featured in the upcoming edition of the Women of Distinction Magazine in 2015/2016.

Alicia Patterson began her career focused on wellness in 2008 teaching yoga. She continued this path by investigating personal and psychological growth and then took the next step in her career by beginning graduate work in Somatic Psychology in 2011. Following graduate school, she made the decision to begin work in birthing as a Doula and found the fields to be closely related.

Juggling the management of her private practice in Somatic Psychotherapy (also known as Body-Centered Psychotherapy and Dance Movement Therapy), birth doula work with The Boulder Doula Circle, and leading workshops focused in embodiment, Alicia Patterson focuses on therapeutic material, including a deeper connection to the body, relationships and communication, social justice, sexuality, body image/eating/exercise patterns, self-esteem, and recovery from physical, emotional, and cognitive stressor and traumas. She is a trained Birth Doula and provides emotional, physical, and mental support to families and parents that are going through the pregnancy and birthing/postpartum process. With this training, Alicia Patterson provides a special lens around processing birth in her psychotherapy practice, as it is the most intense processes a human body goes through.

"My inspiration comes from noticing what fills and energizes me because that's what helps me serve others the most," Ms. Patterson said in relation to her career. "Since I grabbed hold of embodiment, coupled with psychological growth, it has been my spark. It's what I study, read, breathe, live, and practice. These practices have impacted my system profoundly and have propelled me more and more toward health and away from dysfunction in a way I never imagined possible. It has inspired me to gift that to others."

Alicia Patterson is a graduate of Naropa University with an MA in Somatic Counseling Psychology with an emphasis in Dance Movement Therapy and Body Psychotherapy. She is a Registered Dance Movement Therapist and Certified Nutrition and Health Coach. She's had education and training in various areas, including Authentic Movement, 5Rhythms Dance, and Gestalt Experiential Therapy and Training. Throughout her career she has worked in inpatient psychiatric care, crisis stabilization, birthing, and trauma recovery.
