Women of Distinction Magazine Selects Carol Osborne as a Distinguished Professional in Her Field

Carol Osborne will be featured in an upcoming edition of the Women of Distinction Magazine in 2016.

FRANKLIN, OH, June 23, 2016 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Carol Osborne, Registered Respiratory Therapist, Atrium Medical Center, has been recognized as a Distinguished Professional in her field through Women of Distinction Magazine. Carol Osborne will be featured in an upcoming edition of the Women of Distinction Magazine in 2016.

More than just a job, becoming a Registered Respiratory Therapist has been what Carol Osborne calls "a true calling in life". Beginning her career as a Nurse's Aide in 1973, she heeded the advice of her physician who told her to look into a newly opened therapy program at the time, Miami Valley Hospital, in Dayton, Ohio. Completing their Certificate Program in Respiratory Care in 1983, she has been employed in the field ever since.

"I was also great impressed by the care I received when I was in the hospital and on a ventilator," Osborne said. "My respiratory therapists took wonderful care of me while in the intensive care unit and on the surgical floors at Kettering. Even when they weren't sure if I could hear them when they were talking to me they never failed to call me by my name or explain what it was they were doing. They made me feel like a person, as opposed to a case, and I never forgot that."

Osborne has since become a Registered Respiratory Therapist through the National Board of Respiratory Care, earned her AAS in Respiratory Care at Sinclair Community College, and completed her Bachelor of Health Professions with an emphasis in Respiratory Care at Kettering College of Medical Arts. Today, she is working for Atrium Medical Center, mostly involved in pulmonary rehabilitation and education. By teaching patients to manage their disease process, there is less of a chance of re-admittance to the hospital and more efficient use of the healthcare system.

"I love the diversity of the job," she noted. "Each patient is different, each situation is different, and I must always be ready with a variety of treatment options as soon as I assess a patient."

Osborne is also a Certified Tobacco Treatment Specialist and Certified Asthma Educator. Active as a member of the American Association of Respiratory Care, Osborne takes continued education courses to stay abreast of changes in medical care and technology and to better serve her patients. A proud mother of two children, Osborne helped raise five of her nieces and nephews after they lost their mother to cancer while they were all still very young. This experience, along with suffering a brain tumor that had to be surgically removed during her final year at Kettering College, served as an inspiration for her to continue learning and evolving in her career in healthcare.
