NEW YORK, NY, February 20, 2016 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Cecilia Echols-Cudjoe, Public Affairs Specialist/Community Involvement Coordinator for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Region 2, has been recognized as a Distinguished Professional in her field through Women of Distinction Magazine. Cecilia Echols-Cudjoe will be featured in the upcoming edition of the Women of Distinction Magazine in 2016.

Overseeing 70 regional and removal hazardous waste sites with multimillion dollar budgets as a Public Affairs Specialist/Community Involvement Coordinator, Cecilia Echols-Cudjoe provides community consultation that promotes early, ongoing, meaningful, and responsive two-way communication between the EPA and the impacted communities. Communicating regularly with team members, she also advises press officers and briefs upper management often about possible photo ops, op-eds, blogs, social media, and engages with non-governmental organizations, local and state legislatures, and elected representatives.

"My biggest inspiration as a public servant is to show compassion to others," Echols-Cudjoe said. "No matter what a person's economic, spiritual, cultural, ethnic, or religious background, everyone has a voice in how they'd like their backyard cleaned up. Everyone wants the air they breathe and the water they drink to be clean."

Echols-Cudjoe served as Chairperson for the first New York Superfund Symposium, served as a Regional Youth Coordinator, member of the first Citizen Advisory Group Task Force in Glen Cove, New York, and served as a Community Involvement Coordinator for Hurricane Katrina and Hurricane Sandy. She has collaborated on several video projects, including co-editing and assisting with production and serving as a spotlight speaker for a Green Remediation Project, collaborated in writing a video called Making a Visible Difference in Newburgh, New York, and produced a video highlighting the 35th Anniversary of Superfund. She also earned numerous awards throughout her career, including an On the Spot Award for creating the first New York City Superfund Symposium in 2014, five Bronze Medals for Commendable Service for her involvement in completing many agency initiatives from 1994-2015, a Certificate of Appreciation for 30 years of service in 2014, and a Regional Administrator's Team Award in 2014 for the assessment of a cleanup action at the Wolff-Alport Superfund site located in Brooklyn, New York.

Graduating with a B.A. in Media Communications at Hunter College in 1986, Echols-Cudjoe later earned a Certificate in Fundraising through New York University in 2003 before completing an EPA Leadership Development Program in 2014.
