Dr. Pamela Hampton-Garland will be featured in the upcoming edition in 2015/2016.

WASHINGTON, DC, December 30, 2015 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Pamela Hampton-Garland, Assistant Professor at University of the District of Columbia, has been recognized as a Distinguished Professional in her field through Women of Distinction Magazine. Dr. Pamela Hampton-Garland will be featured in the upcoming edition in 2015/2016.

Beginning her teaching career with University of the District of Columbia as an Assistant Professor in August 2014, Dr. Garland is responsible for providing quality instruction to students who enroll in the school's Adult Education Certificate and Master's Degree Program, conducting research that advances the field of Adult Education, and serving her local and national communities with the gifts and talents she has been blessed to possess in the field.

"My education initially opened the doors to much of my success, but my character is what keeps the doors open," Dr. Hampton-Garland said about what she believes has contributed to her good fortune.

Prior to teaching at the University, Dr. Hampton-Garland was an Adjunct Instructor at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University where she taught in the Adult Education program for six years. In addition to higher education, she was the Program Director for former Senator John Edwards' pilot program, "College for Everyone", based in Greene County, North Carolina, which she ran for four years. Dr. Hampton-Garlands' passion for education is evident and is reflected in her founding of the non-profit organization Scholar Bound in the mid 90's. This program, although no longer in operation, focused on providing college access to thousands of individuals across the nation.

Dr. Hampton-Garland holds a PhD from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in Curriculum and Instruction with a concentration in Cultural Studies. She holds a Master of Arts degree in Adult Education and a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University.  She is a member of American Association of Adult and Continuing Education, Adult Education Research Conference, Council on Adult Basic Education, and American Education Research Association. Awarded with an Ebony Magazine and Pine Sol Cleaners Sister Speaks Award in 2008, Dr. Hampton-Garland was recognized for her commitment to community development related to her college access work with Scholar Bound.

In addition to these accomplishments Dr. Hampton-Garland is the author of an ethnoautobiography, entitled 'The Mask I Wear to Hide the Pain I Bear', which was published by CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform in September 2013. This book chronicles the resilience of Dr. Hampton-Garland as she survived unspeakable atrocities of molestation, incest, rape, and other abuses throughout her childhood and triumphed to becoming an educator, inspirational and motivational speaker, mother of Domonique Garland, a third grade teacher in Washington, DC and Gabrielle Garland, a college senior at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and the wife of Mr. Vernon Garland, an Information Technology Project Manager, for nearly 24 years.
