Women of Distinction Magazine Selects Geraldine K. Piorkowski, PhD as a Distinguished Professional in Her Field

Geraldine K. Piorkowski, PhD was recently featured in an October 2015 edition of the Women of Distinction Magazine.



    CHICAGO, IL, December 07, 2016 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Geraldine K. Piorkowski, PhD, Clinical Psychologist and Clinical Associate Professor of Psychology at the University of Illinois at Chicago, has been recognized as a Distinguished Professional in her field through Women of Distinction Magazine. Geraldine K. Piorkowski, PhD was recently featured in an October 2015 edition of the Women of Distinction Magazine.

Geraldine K. Piorkowski, PhD has spent more than 50 years in the field of psychology. Today, she is in private practice as a Clinical Psychologist providing psychotherapy to adults, most of whom are successful professionals in their chosen fields and, yet, are struggling with conflicts in their romantic relationships. Dedicated to helping couples become more empathetic towards each other, Piorkowski has written and published two books relative to the topic: 'Too Close for Comfort: Exploring the Risks of Intimacy' (1994); and 'Adult Children of Divorce: Confused Love Seekers' (2008). The first book explores the many fears and risks of romantic relationships and the second book examines the clinical and research literature regarding adult children of divorced parents, how they fare in their own romantic relationships, and what can be done to resolve their many dilemmas.

"I've always been intensely interested in what makes people tick ever since my teenage years when I grew up with a grandmother who had dementia," Piorkowski said about her dedication to the field.

Throughout Piorkowski's career, she has served as Chair of the Psychology Department at Roosevelt University, as Director of the Counseling Center for two large, urban universities, and as Supervising Psychologist for psychiatric hospitals, medical schools, mental health clinics, and a school for delinquent girls. She also administered mental health programs, supervised, and taught a great number of students, residents, and interns.

Piorkowski completed her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign in 1964. She is currently active as a Board Member of the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society as well as in her private practice.
