Hilda C. Stevens, MEd, will be featured in an upcoming edition of the Women of Distinction Magazine in 2016.

LYNCHBURG, VA, July 09, 2016 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Hilda C. Stevens, MEd, Executive Director and Co-Founder Successful Innovations, Inc., an educational consulting firm, has been recognized as a Distinguished Professional in her field through Women of Distinction Magazine. Hilda C. Stevens, MEd, will be featured in an upcoming edition of the Women of Distinction Magazine in 2016.

Founded in July 2006 by three educational leaders of schools where a large percentage of their students were on free or reduced lunch programs, Darla Edwards and Stefanie Prokity, both former principals, and Hilda C. Stevens, a retired literary coach, formed Successful Innovations, Inc. as a way to increase student achievement and decrease the achievement gaps. Believing that the solution to increased performance could be addressed by equipping parents with the knowledge necessary to support their child's education, they've been making great strides over the past 10 years.

Offering products for parents of students from early childhood through the high school level to help them achieve academic success, like the 'Parent Coordinator Starter Kit', which was designed to serve as an essential resource for powerfully enhancing collaborative school and family partnerships, Successful Innovations, Inc. currently has more than 50 different products on various topics. Some examples include study skills, transitioning from middle school to high school, and preparing your child for college, all of which are available online.

As Executive Director of Professional Development, Stevens provides capacity building training to educators, parent leaders, and families on the evidenced-based research on the impact of family engagement on student achievement.

"When schools and families form a positive, collaborative partnership, student achievement increases, attendance improves, attitudes about education improve, and graduation rates increase," Stevens noted. "At Successful Innovations, our work is based on the 'Dual Capacity Framework' by Dr. Karen Mapp of Harvard University, 'The National PTA Standards' 'Comer School Development Program', by Dr. James Comer of Yale University, and 'Framework of Six Types of Parent Involvement' by Dr. Joyce Epstein of Johns Hopkins University."

Successful Innovations, Inc. has published four professional learning books: 'Building a High Achieving School: 3 C's to Success', Second Edition; 'Family Engagement and Nurturing Children to be Independent Thinkers'; 'Parent Involvement 101'; and 'The Parent Coordinator's Manual'.

An Elementary School Teacher for 36 years, Stevens spent nine of those years as a Reading Specialist and Literary Coach. She received extensive professional development training at the University of Virginia's Curry School of Education from 2003-09, holds endorsements in administration, supervision, and gifted education through the University of Virginia, and holds certification in early childhood education and elementary education. Stevens also holds a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Averett University and a Master of Education from Lynchburg College. Active with the Virginia Association of Elementary School Principals, National Association of Elementary School Principals, Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, and Kiwanis International Association, Stevens has been recognized for her work with a nomination for a DePAUL Community Resources Women of Achievement Award in 2012, a Lynchburg Chamber of Commerce Small Business Award in 2012, and a US Chamber of Commerce Blue Ribbon Award for Small Business in 2012, to name a few.

"I knew that one day I was destined to become an elementary school teacher," Stevens added, "and here I am, over 50 years later, and I can reflect on the path that God has led me to this position. I'm no longer in the classroom teaching, but I am teaching adult learners on the best practices for student learning. I feel that I've truly reached my calling of helping others when I can make a difference in a child's life and impact their future through innovative trainings that myself and my team provides to their teachers and parents."
