Women of Distinction Magazine Selects Pearl C. Beguesse-Richardson, MD as a Distinguished Professional in Her Field

Pearl C. Beguesse-Richardson, MD will be featured in Women of Distinction Magazine in 2016.



    BARLING, AR, May 29, 2016 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Pearl C. Beguesse-Richardson, MD, PLLC, has been recognized as a Distinguished Professional in her field with an Excellence Award through Women of Distinction Magazine. Pearl C. Beguesse-Richardson, MD will be featured in Women of Distinction Magazine in 2016.

Returning to her alma mater after working in pediatrics for 25 years, Pearl Beguesse-Richardson, MD was ready to switch gears to pursue her passion of psychiatry, especially after discovering the ever-growing need for mental health providers. Completing the program in 2003, she joined Western Arkansas Counseling and Guidance Center in Fort Smith, Arkansas, but after five years she left to assist the nation's veterans by joining the psychiatry team in the Department of Veteran Affairs. Retiring six years later in 2014, Beguesse-Richardson, MD began working part-time as a psychiatrist to fill the need in her local community.

As one of the psychiatrists at the outpatient clinic where she currently works, Beguesse-Richardson, MD provides mental healthcare to adults three days per week. Her duties include diagnosis, medication management, and informal counseling services. Her flexible schedule allows today allows her to enjoy more time to dedicate to her family and loved ones, yet still be an active practitioner in the field.

"The healthcare industry is always going to be a necessary part of society. The key is to be diligent and decide what area best suits you and pursue that specialty," Beguesse-Richardson, MD said, noting that medicine was just starting to become a more acceptable field for woman when she entered into it. "It's important to be true to yourself."

Practicing pediatrics from 1979-99, Beguesse-Richardson, MD worked in both Mississippi and Tennessee in private practice, and in Michigan and Texas for group practices. She has been practicing psychiatry for the past 13 years. The former member of Mississippi State Medical Society, Michigan State Medical Society, Tennessee State Medical Society, and Harris County Medical Society is now currently active as a member of the Meharry Medical College Alumni Association, National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, and Ninth Street Missionary Baptist Church where she is involved in the Praise Team and Women's Missionary Society. She also serves as President of the Phillis Wheatley Club in Fort Smith, Arkansas.

Beguesse-Richardson, MD holds a BS in Zoology from Tennessee State University and a Doctor of Medicine from Meharry Medical College. Finishing her residency in pediatrics at Howard University Hospital in 1976, her second residency in psychiatry was completed at Meharry Medical College in 2003 where she served as Chief Resident.
