Women of Distinction Magazine Selects Shannon L. Williamson, Ph.D., as a Distinguished Professional in Her Field

Shannon L. Williamson was recently featured in the Winter 2015 edition of Women of Distinction Magazine.



    MAULDIN, SC, February 03, 2016 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Shannon L. Williamson, Ph.D., Owner and Director of Upstate Pediatric Speech Therapy Services, Inc., has been recognized as a Distinguished Professional in her field with an Excellence Award through Women of Distinction Magazine. Shannon L. Williamson was recently featured in the Winter 2015 edition of Women of Distinction Magazine.

Learning the value of a good education from her parents, Shannon L. Williamson, Ph.D. graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Speech-Language Pathology Summa Cum Laude at Columbia College, followed by a Master of Speech Pathology at the University of South Carolina. Becoming a Licensed Speech-Language Pathologist in 1996, she pursued advanced training in her field and obtained a Doctor of Philosophy in Speech-Language Pathology in 2001. She has since formed her own company, Upstate Pediatric Speech Therapy Services, Inc., as Owner and Director.

Providing clinical services to children in private schools both during school hours and after school hours, Dr. Williamson is currently contracted with five local schools in her area.

"I feel that by starting my own business I am living the American dream," Dr. Williamson said. "We are flourishing and growing with each new day and are currently negotiating a building expansion to incorporate more therapists and services. At Upstate Pediatric Speech Therapy Services, Inc., we strive for excellence in service and education for children and their families."

Previously serving as a pediatric speech-language pathologist at the Hitchcock Rehabilitation Center in Aiken, South Carolina, Dr. Williamson later transitioned to a public school setting employed as a school speech-language pathologist for Lexington/Richland School District 5 in Irmo, South Carolina before becoming the lead therapist at her school and a curriculum coordination for speech-language pathology services in the county. Dr. Williamson has served as Adjunct Professor and Cooperating Teacher to the University of South Carolina, Columbia College, and South Carolina State University.

Dr. Williamson has spent time participating in case studies with integrated listening and has collaborated with them regarding studies for auditory processing/working memory. She has also collaborated with New Mind Center in Atlanta, Georgia offering neurological therapy for children with attentional/learning disorders. Currently, Dr. Williamson is a member of the American Speech-Language Hearing Association and the International Association of Healthcare Professionals.
