Woodbury's School of Business is Collaborating with VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) and the Accounting Society to Provide Tax Preparation Assistance to Members of the Community

Woodbury's Accounting students volunteer for the VITA Program, which provides free tax preparation services to deserving families in the Los Angeles areas.

BURBANK, CA, November 04, 2014 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Woodbury's internship model is offering hands-on experience working for the VITA program, starting January 2015. VITA program is a great opportunity and a wonderful place for tax interns to launch their career before graduation. Being a VITA intern is an incredible experience and introduction into the professional world. Interns will learn how to prepare tax returns by accurately applying tax law and identifying any tax benefits for which the taxpayer qualifies. The internship will begin with training, where students will learn more about the VITA program, overall system and expectations, as well as how to use the necessary software. The training will show how the theories and concepts that students learned in tax classes can be applied. The interns will also do simulations, where they will practice sample assignments.

The responsibilities associated with the tax intern position will include the preparation of both federal and state tax returns for individuals. The tasks required in the process of tax preparation include gathering the necessary financial information, inputting the information into a tax return software program and tax rules and regulations research. Interns will have an opportunity to prepare and electronically file basic income tax returns, such as forms 1040A and 1040 with corresponding schedules and comply with IRS standards. The internship at the VITA program will help bridge the gap between what was taught in the classroom and the skills required to be a successful professional, through working hands-on with a widely diverse group of clients. During the internship interns will have an amazing opportunity to interact on a one-on-one basis with multiple clients, accounting majors, volunteers and the department chair.

The internship promises to be highly educational and invaluable to any student's development in tax field.
