World Cup Soccer Meets Fair Trade Advocacy and World Culture Non Profit Second World Partners with ONE Lowell to Bring Together Immigrant Communities

    LOWELL, MA, July 12, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Thousands will descend upon Cawley Stadium in Lowell to enjoy watching hundreds of players representing 16 countries from five continents will come together August 1-2.

Along with thrilling, high-level soccer, this year's event will feature a New England Culture Fest Preview complete with arts, crafts and live cutting edge cultural entertainment! In collaboration with Lowell nonprofit arts and development organization Second World this year will also feature arts and crafts exhibitors along with exciting cultural entertainment in celebration of the WORLD CUP finals on Sunday from 2:00pm - 7:00pm.

Teams from Brazil, Portugal, Guatemala, USA, Ireland, Vietnam, Germany, Uganda, Ghana, Somalia, Liberia/Nigeria, Kenya, Jamaica, Honduras, Colombia and England will compete for the tournament championship, which offers to the winning team $500, winners' medals and a replica of the FIFA World Cup trophy.

Second World Executive Director Valerie Parker said "We are thrilled to be bringing an exclusive preview of The New England Culture Fest to the WORLD CUP event to edutain for a better world and foster unity in our community." Parker is also founder of the nation's first fair trade festival combining media, music, fashion and art- which got it's start in Lowell's Arts District.

The Sixth Annual New England Culture Fest takes place across from 172 Middle Street in Downtown Lowell on September 12, 2009 from 2pm-10pm with the rain date of September 13, 2009.

"This tournament gives people of diverse backgrounds an opportunity to come together and enjoy soccer, which is a common passion for all of them," said Victoria Fahlberg, director of ONE Lowell.

The ONE Lowell World Cup and The New England Culture Fest Preview will take place at Cawley Stadium in Lowell Saturday and Sunday, August 1-2. ONE Lowell is a non-profit organization dedicated to increasing the integration and self sufficiency of Lowell's many immigrant newcomers. Proceeds from the ONE Lowell World Cup will go to help promote academic success among immigrant and refugee youth.
